![]() "Dartmouth Ferry" Katie Blackmore was a follower of the Glasgow Girls, group of of Painters, which was active in the period from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Their mentor was the famous Charles Rennie Macintosh, who was married to one of the Glasgow Girls. The style - developed at the Glasgow School of Art - was influenced by Celtic design and the flowing drawings of Aubrey Beardsley. Though Katie was a junior, indeed, younger, member of the group, she appears to have developed the genre further than some of the others, extending the flat look of Beardsley and the Celts with a dark depth that adds a look of mystery to much of her work. ![]() "Moon Lullaby" A typical Katie Blackmore picture ![]() "Midnight Awakening" ![]() Picture from an unknown source ![]() "Alassio" detail from pastel by Katie Blackmore, in the posession of Kelvin Adams ![]() "The Spangled Gown" |
